Derby MiniMarathon Finalist

This morning I ran the Derby MiniMarathon here in Louisville, KY. It was the first time I had ever ran that far in my life (13.1 miles)! It was pretty fun, and I definitely want to do it again. Overall there were 9385 MiniMarathon runners and 1206 Marathon runners...this event is obviously pretty huge...people come from all over the states to run it. One great thing abouth the race was that there were so many people on the sidelines cheering for us runners the whole length of the race...that was really neat and it definitely helped me to reach my goal!

I finished with a time of 1 hr. 54 min. 3 sec.

In my age group (women 20-24), I placed 83rd out of 587.
Here's me after the race...happy to be finished, refueling with some Starbucks! : )

And props to my husband for waking up early on his "Sleep-in Saturday" to take me to the starting line!

Did you feel it?

A large area of the Midwest had an earthquake early this morning. I was woken up by it as our apartment building began to shake. Braden was already at work at UPS and since I didn't think earthquakes were possible in Kentucky, I went back to sleep. It's not like we're in California anymore! It wasn't until I finally woke up for work and was listening to the radio that I realized what had happened. I was pretty shocked! I felt an earthquake! Crazy huh? They said on the radio that it was rated as a 5.2.

BTW, there was no noticeable damage to our apartment or to our stuff with the exception of the concrete stairs that lead up to our apartment became detached from the building.

People are already selling t-shirts like this:

Thunder!

Yes, we sure did! We braved the weather last night to view "Thunder over Louisville" downtown. It was pretty awesome.

Thunder over Louisville is an event that kicks of the festivities of the annual Kentucky Derby (you know, the horse race). It consists of an air show that takes place during the day and a spectacular fireworks display that night which makes any 4th of July show look like kid stuff...and of course FOOD! Kentuckians can't go without some good home cookin'!

I'm having trouble uploading my video of the fireworks...but believe me, it was the best ever!
