Huber's Farm

Went to Huber's Farm over across the river in Indiana today. We had a great time and the weather was absolutely beautiful...that's why I love the fall! I was a little camera happy, but what's new? Here's some of my favorites:Tractor ride to the pumpkin patch:Found one!Me too!Lost in the corn maze:We made it out alive!

You know you live in Kentucky when...

Kentuckyisms:
  • first off, Louisville is pronounced "Lou-ah-vull". If you're gonna live here you have to get that one down first...and quick.
  • Other pronunciations that have particularly annoyed me are stated as followed: pen is pronounced pin, hour is pronounced hrrrr, older is pronounced odor well, there are more I just can't think of any right now. I'll edit this later, I'm sure.
  • Idea always has an "r" on the end.
Around town:
  • The only way to get chili is with spaghetti in it.
  • Turn signal are useless to Kentuckians.
  • There are these multi-colored horse statues are all over the place...I still have to figure out what they're for.
  • When your car gives you trouble just park on the side of the road...and let me tell ya, I've never seen so many broke down old cars on the side of the highway before!
  • Braden works at the Panera Bread in Indiana, which is only about 10-15 minutes from our apartment, but when you tell people that, they really look at you funny, like you're crazy for even crossing the bridge to Indiana. They think people from Indiana are the REAL hicks!
  • There's only one kind of tea around here and it's sweet. And everyone drinks tea, I've seen 2 years olds drink it!
  • Almost every other commercial on TV or the radio is for lawyers.
  • People ignore "no smoking" signs, they think they're just there to make a select few people happy.
  • When people ask you where you live, they mean what county are you in.
  • We didn't move here until after, but as I hear, the second Saturday in May, you're at the Derby...unless you're crazy.
Sports:
  • College sports are HUGE! Mainly football, and basketball and there's only two teams you're allowed to vote for: University of Louisville Cardinals or Kentucky State Wildcats. Red vs. Blue...and everyone and their grandma roots for either one of these teams...if you don't care, that means you're not from around these parts.
  • Did I mention college sports are huge? There are no other sports!

Yum!

I have really been craving some In-N-Out Burger, Jamba Juice, Stonefire Grill, Corner Bakery, BJ's...just to name a few! Haha! All of which are restaurants Braden and I frequented while we lived in California. I have gone so far as to search online for the "secret recipes" to make my favorite flavor of Jamba Juice smoothie (Strawberries Wild) and pazookie at BJ's ( a warm, gooey cookie made in a deep dish pizza pan topped with vanilla ice cream)...these two at least don't seem too hard to make at home. We shall see! After I hit up the grocery store I'm going to put my cooking/baking skills to use. But as for an authentic In-N-Out burger with their great fries and milkshake and some of the great dishes at Stonefire Grill...well, I guess it's time fora visit back to CA! haha!

In other news,....my younger sister Kendra attended homecoming last weekend at her high school Fort Zumwalt South...she's a freshman and went with her best friend Kaitlin Bean and some other girls they are friends with. My mom e-mailed me pictures and she looked so pretty I had to post some:

2007 Annual NANC Conference

Braden left early this morning to catch his flight to Fort Worth, TX to attend the NANC (National Association of Nouthetic Counselors) Conference. Braden was pretty excited about it and has had this trip planned for a while. He met up with his dad in St. Louis, MO where his plane touched down before picking up again and flying straight into Texas.
Today in their free time they visited the campus of Dallas Theological Seminary where Braden's dad attended after graduating from Missouri Baptist. Yeah, they do look harmless...but don't let the smiles fool you. These two are a deadly force when put in the same room! Oh, and if you know anyone in Fort Worth area, please inform them to stay clear of all red minivans.
